The Chicago Park District will offer one, two, and four week Rainbow Fleet Sailing Summer Camps throughout the summer out of Burnham Harbor (near Museum Campus downtown) targeting youth 8 - 17 years of age. Sailing Summer Camps begin on June 9, 2008 and are held Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Participants in these camps learn sailing basics, terminology, sailing theory and basic racing.
Youth participation in the Rainbow Fleet Sailing Summer Camp, from throughout Chicago, has more than tripled in the past few years. We are excited to offer sail training adventures in a fun, safe, and enjoyable environment. Further, camp officials articulate, Learning to sail on Chicagos beautiful lakefront would truly be an experience of a lifetime for young people.
For the second time, the Chicago Park District will offer a four week version of the sailing program in addition to the one and two week sailing adventures. The four week sailing summer camp will emphasize sail race training and include team sail racing events.

The Chicago Park District will again offer a Youth Day Sail Program, a full day sailing adventure for up to 6 advanced youth sailors with a sailing instructor on a Colgate 26. Participants in this program learn to sail in open waters on larger sailing vessels. This is a monthly Tuesday event with 2 vessels going out for the day from 9:00am - 3:00pm.
The Chicago Park District places a great priority on safety preferring to use only certified sailing instructors. The Rainbow Fleet Sailing Summer Camp Program builds self confidence, team work skills, and sportsmanship, in an exciting, invigorating and safe environment. As one parent who enrolled their student in last years camp states, My child loved the instructors! The class is well structured and fun.
The Chicago Park District youth sailing programs are affordable and accessible for all of Chicagos youth. Further, there will be parent volunteer opportunities and a limited number of scholarships made available to low-income families. Participants can look forward to an awards program recognizing successful completion of classes.
